Inspired in part by the antics of Charles Ludlam’s Ridiculous Theatrical Company in New York and propelled by a late-20th-century vogue for parodying the melodramatic pretense of earlier decades, the Late Night Theatre company delighted the city with a steady supply of theatrical subversion.
