Super Spectacular! To Opera with Love
KC Fringe Festival

I liked this show.  It's charming.  If you are an opera lover, you will probably enjoy this show even more than I did.

It is irreverant to the source material, but also shows an abiding love of its origins.  Rather than mock opera for its high-brow appeal, it introduces the storylines to the unsophisticated crowd.  Who knew Guns n' Roses wrote for opera?

Okay, so Guns n' Roses didn't write for opera, but making the connection helps to subtly demonstrate the universal appeal opera can have, if you make the effort to understand it.

The two characters, Merril Garrick and Emmet, are very well played and funny.  The audience interaction is great.  Someone sneezed in the audience and Emmet managed to offer a "bless you" to the audience member without missing a beat in his monologue.

I would highly recommend seeing this show.  It's fun.  It's silly.  It's enjoyable even for a non-opera fan such as myself.
