City Theatre of Independence seeking short plays

City Theatre of Independence is seeking short play submissions for the Fifth Annual Original Playwrights Festival. Play submissions will be accepted until May 15. Send to jkmstone@comcast.net.

Plays must be original, never published and never previously performed. Each play should be between 10 and 15 minutes run time. The theme for this year is "Waiting."

There will be one set on stage, consisting of 2 doors, 1 stage right and 1 up stage left, 1 side table and 2 chairs (if more chairs are needed the actors will carry on and off stage).

Fifth Annual Original Playwrights Festival – Performances July 11, 12, 13, 2013 at 8PM and July 14 at 2PM in the Powerhouse Theatre located in the Roger T. Sermon Community Center, 201 N. Dodgion, Independence. Tickets are $10 at the door for general seating.

Barn Players offers summer internships

Area high school and college students will have the opportunity to earn up to $500.00 to be used toward tuition, boarding or books at the college of his/her choice. Application deadline is April 30, 2013. This is an incredible opportunity for a student to earn necessary college money, by participating in something that he/she enjoys!  The internship requires the student to be available to work / study on our summer productions at The Barn Players Theatre.

The intern(s) might be working on one or more of the following productions this summer:
  • Sordid Lives
  • Dangerous Liaisons
  • Disney's Winnie-the-Pooh, Kids (working with children in two different sessions)
  • You Can't Stop The Beat: Rock On Broadway
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Currently be currently enrolled in a high school or college theatre program, and be from the Metro Kansas City area
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from an instructor or counselor at the school that he/she attends
  • Provide a cover letter of introduction by describing his/her interest in the performing arts
  • Provide a current theatrical resume listing his/her experience in the performing arts

StoneLion seeking puppeteers for "Puppets of the Planet" festival

StoneLion Puppet Theatre is presenting a series of Puppets for the Planet festivals this spring. They are looking for performers to roam the crowds with puppets or perform in one of our puppet carnivale "side shows". Puppetry experience not required. This is an interactive performance opportunity for a family audience so comfortablility with improvisation a plus.

Festival dates are:
March 23 10-2
April 6 11-3
April 20 8-2

KC Women in Film and Television seeking short student films

KCWIFT is joining the UMKC Women's Center, Her Art Project,  the UMKC Department of Communication, and PoPFilmsKC to announce a "Call for Entries" to showcase films created by female student filmmakers in the Kansas City metro area.

SEEKING: Any films written and/or directed by a female student** filmmaker
SCREENING DATE: Thursday, March 14, 2013, 6:30 p.m.

**STUDENT WORK QUALIFICATIONS

High school students can perform at the William Inge Theatre Festival, Kansas' Official State Theatre Festival, and compete for significant scholarship funds.

Leawood Stage Company is accepting applications for Director for:
"The Sound of Music" to be presented at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in   Ironwoods Park, July 11-21, 2013.

KC Women in Film and Television 2012 short screenplay contest

Kansas City Women in Film and Television (KCWIFT) is pleased to announce the second annual KCWIFT & Kansas City FilmFest Short Screenplay Contest. With regard to our mission of empowering, promoting, and mentoring women in the entertainment, media, and communications industries, KCWIFT has partnered with KC FilmFest, presented by the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee, to host an annual short screenwriting competition exclusively for female   filmmakers/screenwriters. The contest winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize to make her winning script into a short film.

Olathe Community Theatre seeking directors and plays

The board of directors of the Olathe Community Theater Association (OCTA) is looking for directors for our 2013-2014 season. We'd like to invite you to submit a slate of no more than three scripts you'd like to direct at OCTA. Volunteers needed for "Dance in the Park"

Dance in the Park, scheduled for Saturday evening in Roanoke Park, relies upon neighborhood volunteers for its success. This year several folks from the surrounding neighborhoods of Roanoke, Coleman Highlands, West Plaza, Valentine and Volker have already signed up to help, but the dance needs a few more volunteers. Dance in the Park needs:
  • Strong people to help set up the stage Wednesday 9:30 – 11:30 (depending on the weather).
  • Monitors to watch over the stage and equipment Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. or from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • One more volunteer for parking and traffic control Saturday from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m..
  • Someone to hold the donation basket after the show Saturday.
  • Help tearing down the stage around 11 a.m. on Sunday.

KCK Community College offering performance grants

KCKCC Theatre Department is offering a limited number of performance grants for the fall 2012 semester. Performance grants cover the cost of up to 18 hours of tuition and fees and are renewable each semester. Performance grants are also available for technical theatre students  as are a limited number of work study positions. Work study shop assistants may work up to 15 hours per week, assisting department technical director and designers on productions. Playwright Mario Farwell seeking composer

Mario Farwell is an award winning playwright, screenwriters and librettist in search of a composer to complete work on a full-length musical entitled "Starfest." The musical has been in development for several years, and he has recently completed the book and lyrics.he's  looking for a composer to collaborate with on developing the music for the show. "Starfest" is a parody of the sci-fi genre such as the Flash Gordon serials with an urban twist. Think of "Star Wars" meets "The Wiz." The major roles are portrayed by Afro-Americans, and the music is a blend of R&B, rock, gospel, hip-hop and traditional musical theatre. The composer needs to be proficient in pop musical style and able to write music for complicated singing scenes. The book and lyric have been completed. Show has a total of 19 songs and musical numbers. The composer will get a percentage of the show. Farwell is located in St. Louis, MO and willing to work with composer out of state or country.
