The most celebrated jazz prodigy of his generation,
pianist Eldar Djangirov is now 25 years old and coming into his own as a
mature composer and performer. Born behind the Iron Curtain in
Kyrgyzstan, (where his father learned to love jazz listening to VOA
broadcasts), Eldar was recognized as a jazz phenomenon before he was a
teenager. Eldar performs with his trio at Washington’s Blues Alley jazz
club, and talks with Eric about the jazz journey that took him from
Kyrgyzstan to Kansas City, to New York and, now, around the world.
