Kansas Arts Commission defends art as work

Art is work. And people should be paid for making sharing their art and for helping that art reach people through presentations, exhibitions and performances. The nonprofit arts are a large industry in the United States, generating $166.2 billion, and in Kansas, where the nonprofit arts and cultural enterprises generate $153.5 million annually and in 2009, artists made over $80 million from the sale of their work.
