Impact of Kansas Arts Commission elimination

In January, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, facing a budget deficit of nearly $500 million, proposed the elimination and subsequent privatization of the Kansas Arts Commission. The Governor's office estimates that by cutting the KAC and seven other state agencies (including the Public Broadcasting, Human Rights and Conservation commissions), the state will save slightly more than $9 million in its fiscal year 2011 budget, which begins July first.
