Not Just for the Birds -- Really Flys!
Rating: 5
Not Just For The Birds
The Barstow School
On the surface, the play, Not Just for the Birds, seemed a simple fare about a required high school essay and a trip to the history museum, but as the play sprang to life, the audience realized it was MUCH, MUCH more. Not Just for the Birds was magical because it was about dreams -- the dreams we all have, . . . to be accepted, . . . to spread our wings, . . . to fly. Certainly the efforts of all involved -- the talented Barstow students, Kohler (play director), Kincaid (script, lyrics, music), Dickerson (music director), and Cranford (choreography) played a big part, but what was truly memorable was the uplifting feeling the audience took home with them. Even though the KC Fringe Festival is over, this play is not yet done! It will be showcased as part of the American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) during the Edinburgh, Scotland Fringe Festival at The Spaces in Surgeon's Hall from August 9-12, 2010.
