CinemaKC to unite local filmmaking

Years ago the president of the KC Independent Filmmakers Coalition described his job as “trying to teach cats to march.” We may never get moviemakers to move in lockstep, but perhaps through the efforts of some local film supporters they all might be nudged in the same direction.

  1. Grand idea - which should've happened a decade ago; but the current technology and work from local filmmakers make it a lot more probable that this could work than it did back then.

While the relentless pimping of Robert Altman and Walt Disney is necessary to a degree, it conveniently overlooks the glaring fact that both of these gentlemen, while they DID get their start in KC, their success came when they LEFT...

I would think that there may be others - preferably alive - who could be pointed to as 'homegrown successes' and who also could be persuaded to pimp the town. Better yet, why not spotlight some of the local talent who've been producing quality work, and who could step up to the next level?
