Fishtank takes "Elegy for a Lady" to Sweden
Swedish actress Andrea Geurtsen, formerly based in Kansas City, did what so many other theater artists have done: She created work for herself. First she formed a theater company in her hometown of Uppsala, Sweden, and then she organized a festival of American plays, some of which she translated into Swedish. The festival is called American Dreams and will include a performance by Kansas City actors Heidi Van and Bob Paisley of “Elegy for a Lady,” a one-act by Arthur Miller. Van and Paisley will perform in English. The other titles — David Auburn’s “Proof,” Lanford Wilson’s “Talley’s Folly” and David Ives’ “All in the Timing” — will be performed in Swedish using Geurtsen’s translations.
