Unicorn "Inspecting Carol" review by andiam

GREAT FUN Rating: 5

Inspecting Carol
Unicorn Theatre

I gave this show five stars only because the computer would not let me give it more. I literally have not laughed so hard in years. Since the previous reviewer gave a detailed description of the show, I will be brief here. I continue to be amazed at the depth of acting talent we have here in Kansas City. The cast is superb, top to bottom (not that there is a bottom--this is truly an ensemble piece). Cathy Barnett, as the beleaguered director, holds the whole thing together beautifully--and gets to show off her sex appeal as well.

The premise (a troupe of actors mistaking a stranger for someone who has come to judge their show) might seem a bit derivative for those who have seen "Waiting for Guffman"--but this show takes that premise to a new level of absurdity. The comedy is broad but hilarious. This is great farce without a hint of sentimentality. The pace is incredible--before you stop laughing at one gag, another comes along.

Order your tickets soon--a lot of performances have been selling out.
