I’ve been entertained at the American Heartland Theatre, and I’ve been underwhelmed there. But on Wednesday night, I had a new experience. I actually resented a play for being entertaining. “Making God Laugh” by Sean Grennan expertly pushes emotional buttons from beginning to end. Even after bracing for a sentimental, life-affirming conclusion, I found myself succumbing to its narcotizing power.
