Lyric Opera "Barber of Seville" preview by Patrick Neas

Richard Wagner, who took himself and his art very seriously, would probably have thrown a Teutonic fit over “What’s Opera, Doc?,” Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd’s spoof of his solemn operas. But the bon vivant Gioacchino Rossini almost certainly would have loved Bugs and Fudd’s “The Rabbit of Seville.” “The Barber of Seville,” after all, has a Looney Tunes quality of its own, with cartoonish characters and music as fizzy as seltzer water.
