Speaking another language is challenging — and when done well, it can be positively inspiring. But when that dialect is musical, it can be more inspiring still. Justin Downs, a member of the University of Missouri Concert Jazz Band, sees his efforts in musicality as attempts to become fluent in another language and frequently describes it as such. He wields the tenor saxophone within the band and, outside the musical sphere, has an eye toward economics.
