A.R. Gurney’s “Sylvia” is such an effective and transparent exercise in emotional button-pushing that you might find yourself resenting the lump in your throat at the end of the show. I’ve never been a big fan of Gurney’s work, but even a carping critic has to recognize his formidable talents.
