At midafternoon, Bruce Roach, wearing an Actors Theatre KC T-shirt and medieval knee-length boots, walked over to the director’s tent in Southmoreland Park after a rigorous mace-and-broadsword rehearsal and said with unrehearsed candor: “What a way to start the day.”
