Remembering Mary Lou Williams

This month marks what would have been jazz pianist/composer Mary Lou Williams’ 100th birthday. So musicians, choir directors, singers and scholars have planned myriad ways to celebrate the life and music of this jazz performer, a onetime Kansas City great who was called the “Grand Dame of Jazz,” “Boss Piano” and the “History of Jazz” by critics and her contemporaries.
