Mouse King Matthew Donnell retiring from ballet

I wanted to explore what retirement means for dancers. I’ve known several people who have retired from the Ballet. And when I tell people I’m retiring at age 28, they look at me sideways. Retirement is such a scary word to so many dancers. We’re not prepared for it. All our teachers say is, “Your career will be short.” I’ve never seen an article written about retiring in Pointe or any other dance magazines. It takes its toll on you emotionally, and I wanted to write about what that felt like and maybe offer assistance to other dancers.
