The Theatre in the Park (TTIP) is seeking a stage manager and a costumer for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella to be presented July 23-August 1, 2010. Both positions are paid.
The stage manager must be able to devote some time to pre-production immediately... but not much until the week prior to auditions on February 27-28 through the callbacks and final casting on March 6-9. After that, the time commitment would be limited, fluid, and sporadic until rehearsals start on June 5. For this position, Cinderella needs someone who is professional in his or her approach to the theatre (weekly status reports to the Executive Producer and Technical Director are mandatory) and who wants to tackle managing a company of about 130 actors and staff including as many as 40 children (but not including horses and dogs).
The stage manager (or one of his or her assistants) should open up the rehearsal hall at least 30 minutes before each rehearsal starts and be the last member of the company to leave after the rehearsal is over. This individual will be the “go to” person for everything having to do with the production (administration, sets, lights, sound, costumes, props, etc.). Once tech week rolls around, the stage manager “owns” the production. The stage manager calls the show from “the bunker” in the middle of the audience. The stage manager will have at least two assistant stage managers under him or her. During performances they probably will run stage left and right respectively; during rehearsals, the assistants can run specific rehearsals from time to time when the stage manager cannot. The stage manager will have input on who these assistants are as well as a voice in casting.
The costumer will be responsible for everything that is worn during the production by any member of the company (which may be as many as 130 actors plus “dressing” horses and dogs). This individual must be a self-starter, proactive, and be able to design and make or rent costumes as necessary within a budget.
TTIP has a fairly large number of costumes on hand. These should be used as much as possible with whatever re-cutting and accessorizing we deem necessary. It will be the job of this person to get this done with the assistance of whoever we can enlist to help, including members of the ensemble and other people who have worked on TTIP costumes in the past.
Those who have questions or are interested in either position should contact Art Suskin via e-mail at asuskin@kc.rr.com or by phone at 816-763-0233 (home) or 816-210-6266 (cell).
