Vijay Iyer’s Kansas City debut validated the breathless
hyperbole that’s been heaped on him. During Friday’s concert — the first
of the season in the Folly Theater’s jazz series — the pianist,
composer and bandleader displayed the imagination that’s made him one of
the most lauded artists of the new millennium.
