Excelsior Springs church sold to community theatre

It was official on June 1st as the Excelsior Springs Community Theater took possession of the church building located at 114 Marietta. The Downtown Excelsior Partnership purchased the church in 2007 to preserve the building and prevent it from being developed into something that didn't compliment the downtown. While finding a purpose for the building, DEP used grant money to replace the leaking roof and gutters, fixed the stucco, upgraded the electrical box and added zoned heating and cooling. The Downtown Excelsior Partnership also had the building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Along the way the local Excelsior Springs Community Theater became interested in the building and a deal was struck. With a goal of increasing downtown entertainment, it was a perfect match to make the deal with the theater group. The Downtown Excelsior Partnership welcomes the new use of the building and is excited to welcome the theater to the downtown area.
