KCUR’s Laura Spencer talks with heads of local arts schools about some of the challenges of recruiting and retaining students, their tenures at their respective schools, and the impact of the schools on the local economy. She’ll visit with Kathleen Collins, who will retire next year as the longest-serving president in the Kansas City Arts at the helm of the Kansas City Art Institute, which makes her the longest-serving president in the college’s history. Meanwhile, Peter Witte is in just his second year as dean of the UMKC Conservatory, but already presides over a significant and growing presence on the local arts scene.
