Excelsior Springs forms Art Development Council

The Downtown Excelsior Partnership (DEP) is pleased to announce the formation of the Art Development Council. The Council is made up of artists and community leaders interested in the development of the arts in downtown Excelsior Springs. Ginger Nelson, President of the DEP made the announcement April 5, 2010.
"The development of such a council is important to the further development of the Hall of Waters Historic District. The goal of DEP is to create a vibrant, revitalized downtown. We believe one of the ways we can accomplish that goal is through the arts," Nelson said.

"Over the past three years the organization has established Gallery 105 (a joint venture with the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives); coordinated Second Friday Art Crawls; and had art booths at the Wine and Jazzfest: all displaying the artwork of local/regional artists. We are ready for the second phase of development which includes juried art shows, a quality art festival, securing grants for art development and development of the district where artists can live, have studios and galleries. This is very exciting."

Nelson continued, "It is imperative to formally develop such a group that is positive and focused on the same goal of developing the arts."

The Board Members include Nathan Shay, Kim Graham, Brian Rice, Cress Hewitt, Sharon Powell, Molly McGovern, Ben Weirzbicki, Scott Middleton, Ben Mook, Keith Winge and Ginger Nelson.

"This is a very exciting time in the development of the Hall of Waters Historic District and we are very pleased to be involved with individuals who share our vision", Nelson said.
