Fate. It’s not such a popular concept anymore. In 21st
century America we like to think we are captains of our destiny, that we
determine the outcome of our lives. But in the Middle Ages when
everyone — princes, priests and peasants — was locked in a rigid,
feudal class structure, people had a different opinion. It seemed that
each person was born with a fate from which there was no escape.
