Spending a night with family is great, but it can only be better if you spend it with “Blood Brothers,” the new musical production by the Barn Players. The musical has been produced for over 22 years in London and will run at the Barn Players through Sept. 30. Each member of the cast made the audience feel as if they had been transported across the Atlantic to Liverpool in the ‘70s.

Lyric Opera "Madama Butterfly" review by Robert Trussell
Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” is fraught with heartache and tragedy, but the most poignant moment of the Lyric Opera’s opening-night performance came not during the opera itself, but at the curtain call.

Bill McKemy "Duende" review by Happy in Bag
Bill McKemy's Duende may be the most handsome album ever released by a jazz-oriented artist in Kansas City. It features Peregrine Honig's art and was constructed and individually numbered at Hammerpress. That's as good as it gets in this town.

Lyric Opera "Madama Butterfly" review by kellyluck
A new season at the Lyric Opera
Rating: 5
Madama Butterfly
Lyric Opera of Kansas City
Tuxes and tails were in abundance as I stepped off the escalator and into the Kauffman center for the opening night of the Lyric Opera's new season. There's something about opening night that brings out the peacock in one: dresses of all colors and cuts mingled with sharp-tailored suits, slacks, and the occasional kilt. Only a few stalwarts in business casual, clutching their drinks uncomfortably and looking like they were called in to fix the server but got lost (yours truly searched for cowboy hats in the mingling pre-show crowd, but alas: not even in Kansas City).

Barn Players "Blood Brothers" review by watchNwrite
Who's Playing What?
Rating: 2
Blood Brothers
The Barn Players, Inc.
"Blood Brothers," produced by The Barn Players on September 14th, 2012, was little more than disappointing with its uninteresting songs and plot, weak story-telling, questionable acting, and indecipherable performance-style. Most jokes that did land were cheesy while most dramatic moments were over-acted and a confusing addition to the farcical way in which the rest of the story was told. Let's just jump right in.
