What are you complaining about? Cell phones and bosses? Bad drivers and crummy weather? In summer and fall 2011, the Ulrich Museum asked Wichitans to vent, whine, and get things off their chests. An array of those gripes, crafted from several hundred submissions, was set to a clever musical score by Tom Wine, Wichita State University’s director of choirs, and performed by the WSU Madrigal Singers. These vocalists presented a humorous medley of moaning throughout the spring semester, with performances that included a WSU baseball game, the annual Wichita Gridiron comedy show, and outside on the lawn of WSU’s Rhatigan Student Center. Wichita Complaints Choir was inspired by Finnish artists Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen, who have organized cathartic choirs of complainers around the world.

Leawood Stage Company seeking directors for "Sound of Music"
"The Sound of Music" to be presented at the Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park, July 11-21, 2013.
Applications are due by January 10, 2013.
Applicants for Director must submit the following:
1. A letter of interest and a basic concept of the show.
2. A current resume including all production work and other relevant theatre experience including location and year.

KC Symphony debates Mahler's hammer blows
Mahler's Sixth Symphony is best
known for the "hammer blows" in the fourth movement. Music Director,
Michael Stern, Principal Percussionist, Christopher McLaurin and
Concertmaster, Noah Geller, all share their views on how many hammer
blows should be performed. Plus, hear the Mahler Box for the first time
in Helzberg Hall. The Kansas City Symphony will perform Mahler's Sixth
Symphony on January 11-13, 2013 in Helzberg Hall. Order tickets at

"Shannon + Susan" short film by One Tree Films
"You both look radiant" were the words the
officiant used to describe Shannon and Susan as they stood at the alter
about to pledge themselves to one another. There couldn't be a better
label to put on them...they beamed from first morning light to their
drum-lined reception entrance.
It was a special day for me as a filmmaker. Susan hired me at The
Kansas City Star nearly 13 years ago. She was so influential to my
photography early on as a professional. It's awesome to be able to use
the tools she taught me to document her on the day she shined the
