Art exhibit benefits Thank You Walt Disney

Mickey Mouse … what image does the name conjure up? Is it the friendly smile, red shorts and yellow shoes that captivate even the youngest audiences on the current Mickey Mouse Clubhouse? Or the mischievous little helper who finds out that some magic is far beyond his control in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice? What about the sort of humble clothing maker whose mistaken words lead him to slay a giant in The Brave Little Tailor? Whatever image pops in one’s head, the iconic character is known around the world. KC Repertory "Little Shop of Horrors" review by Jeff Tamblyn

In many ways, Little Shop of Horrors is the most perfect example of late-20th century musical theatre: It’s unapologetically derived from another medium (a really schlocky 1960 Roger Corman movie); it’s got that whole post-modern, fake sci-fi thing going on, combined with a mythical-sized dilemma for the unlikely protagonist (Seymour – the little noodnik who works at the flower shop ends up feeding people to a man-eating plant in order to win the woman he loves); and it’s got one of the best scores of any musical I’ve ever heard, thanks to Alan Menken, the surest songwriting bet you can make.
