KC FilmFest preview by Robert Butler

Like people, film festivals develop their own personalities. The AMC Theatres Kansas City FilmFest, opening Wednesday at the all-digital Mainstreet theater, originally was the playground of short films. But over time, as independent, low-budget filmmaking found its artistic legs, the emphasis shifted until fully half of the 2011 lineup consists of features.
